We at Metron Analysis have always taken seriously our obligations regarding the protection of personal data and privacy. The collection, processing and maintenance of personal data is always done according to law and with the respondents’ consent and are used for statistical purposes that have been made known to the data subject.
We recognize the importance of taking effective measures for the protection of personal data, since such protection is of vital importance for maintaining the trust of the people that we contact for our surveys. We are committed to complying with data protection requirements, especially the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into effect on May 25, 2018.
This data protection policy is intended to set a framework for the processing of personal data that we collect in our surveys. Please read it carefully in order to have a full understanding of how we process personal data and what kinds of measures we implement in order to safeguard it.
Why do we process personal data?
Metron Analysis processes personal data (mainly demographic data):
- for statistical purposes and analysis, never for promotion or advertising of products or services
- to perform quality control of the sampling of each survey
- in the context of repeated surveys with a fixed sample (panel surveys) we may use your personal data in order to be able to contact you
What personal data do we process?
In compliance with its legal and regulatory obligations Metron Analysis always tries to limit the amount of personal data we collect and process to data that is appropriate and absolutely necessary for demographic analysis of our surveys.
Personal data is collected from respondents that consent to taking part in our company’s surveys. These may include telephone surveys, face-to-face surveys, focus groups or individual interviews. For the needs and purposes of each survey we may collect and process personal information that includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Contact info (including postal address, e-mail address, telephone number)
- Name
- Demographic data such as gender and age
- Consumer habits
On what legal basis do we process your personal data?
The legal basis for the collection and processing of personal data by Metron Analysis consists of, as the case may be:
- The company’s statutory purpose, which is the collection, statistical processing and analysis of trends, opinions and behaviors of natural persons. This purpose is performed within the European and national legal framework, with full compatibility between the company’s operations and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- The obligations resulting from a) membership of the Association of Greek Market and Opinion Research Companies (AGMORC – www.sedea.gr), b) membership of the European Society of Opinion and Market Research (ESOMAR – www.esomar.org) and c) implementation of the Data Collection Quality Assurance Regulation (DCQA).
- Your consent for us to use your personal data for research purposes. Before you give your consent you always have the chance to be informed about the purpose of data collection and processing, the kind of data collected and about your rights. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
- Cases where national law demands or permits it. The kind and degree of processing must be limited to what is necessary in order to conduct the legally authorized process.
Basic principles governing data processing
Metron Analysis adopts the following principles for personal data processing:
- Personal data is subject to lawful, legitimate and transparent processing.
- Personal data is collected for specific, clear and legitimate research purposes and is not subject to further processing in ways that are incompatible with these purposes.
- Personal data is appropriate, relevant and limited to what is necessary for research purposes.
- Personal data is kept in a form that allows the identification of the data subject only for the time required for research purposes.
- Personal data is processed in such a way as to guarantee the necessary security, including the protection of data from unauthorized or illegal processing and from accidental loss, destruction or corruption, using the appropriate technical and organizational measures (“integrity and confidentiality”).
Personal data security
Metron Analysis takes all appropriate technical measures to safeguard the personal data kept in its files. All data is stored in a secure server that uses strict protocols to provide restricted and graded access (need-to-know principle) to employees authorized by the company to process data strictly for research purposes. In cases where we need partners in order to carry out a project, we demand that they implement corresponding technical measures.
Where is the collected data stored?
All personal data collected for research purposes are stored at the seat of Metron Analysis in Athens (Prefecture of Attica – Greece).
With whom do we share your personal data?
As a rule Metron Analysis shares your personal data with no one. In the few cases where we are otherwise bound by agreements with our respective customers, Metron Analysis informs you before you take part in the survey and asks for your consent.
For how long do we keep your data?
Metron Analysis keeps your personal data for as long as necessary, based on the original purpose of the survey for which the data was collected. Therefore, depending on the survey you have participated in, we may keep your data for different periods of time, after informing you in this respect. Indicatively:
- We keep personal data collected in the context of your participation in our surveys for 3 months for quality control purposes.
- We keep personal data collected in the context of your participation in the TV survey we conduct on behalf of the Nielsen company that measures television ratings, for 1 year.
- If you wish to take part in panel surveys or qualitative surveys (focus groups), we keep the personal data that you consent giving us for your future participation in other surveys, for a period that does not exceed 2 years.
Your rights according to the legal framework of GDPR
According to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the following rights with respect to your personal data:
- The right to access all personal data about you
- The right to rectify and/or update inaccurate data
- The right to erase the aforementioned data (“right to be forgotten”)
- The right to restrict the processing of your personal data
- The right to personal data portability
- The right to object to processing

Applicable Law
This data protection policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the law of the European Union and Greece. All disputes arising out of or in connection with this privacy policy should be dealt with under the jurisdiction of the courts of Athens.
Additionally, Metron Analysis is a member of AGMORC (www.sedea.gr) and ESOMAR (www.esomar.org) and abides by the relevant codes of conduct.
Amendments
Within the current legal framework Metron Analysis reserves the right to change any of the terms of this privacy policy at any time and without notice. Therefore, Metron Analysis recommends that you visit the data protection policy page from time to time or before you decide to take part in one of our surveys.
